Principal BiographyMichael K. Tung is a USPTO registered patent practitioner based in the San Francisco bay area with extensive experience drafting software, electrical, and biotechnology patent applications. Michael holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley as well as a M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University, where he studied statistical machine learning and artificial intelligence. Previously, he has conducted research in the areas of hurricane modeling, human-computer interaction, gene therapy, and computational biology, creating a new algorithm for protein sequence alignment that is used by scientists worldwide.In his professional career, Michael has been employed at, and has served as an independent consultant for, several high-tech companies ranging from established corporations to early-stage Silicon Valley startups. He has an extensive software development background, which includes experiences such as working on the Windows Vista and Windows Mobile codebases at Microsoft, developing a Java-based video search engine for startup Click.TV, implementing a prototype clustering algorithm for Ebay and Shopping.com, as well as developing statistical learning algorithms for product search startup theFind.com. Michael also has technical experience in life sciences from working at a startup biotechnology firm conducting lab work in developing retroviral vectors for HIV vaccines. Michael's practice areas include drafting non-provisional and provisional utility patent applications and consulting in patent portfolio strategy for clients across the US and worldwide. In addition, he has experience with assisting clients in procuring global intellectual property protection using national applications and the PCT process as well as knowledge of Chinese intellectual property law.
